Charpini and Brancato, famous duo of the pre-WWII Paris music halls.
Charpini, born Jean Emile Charpine, possessed an extraordinary soprano voice which he used to impersonate famous songstresses of his time (like the fabulous Cecile Sorel). Teaming with Brancato in the late ’20s, the duo cooked up an act parodying classic opera roles. Carmen, Veronica, Manon, Marguerite… A few recordings survive and they’re campy gems, all.
